Description: So much of today's communication is on the phone and the computer. People don't have as many opportunities today for good, old-fashioned, spontaneous and passionate front-porch talks any more and this is affecting our social fabric, level of political engagement, and culture identity.
The ARTrelief Salons are a monthly community event that offers opportunities to teach and be taught, listen and be listened to, inspire and be inspired. It is a creative laboratory of ideas where adults gather to:
• revive the endangered art of conversation
• create dialogue built on mutual respect and intellectual excitement about our differences
• create a forum to discuss and advance the understanding of complex issues of contemporary thought
• Engage in a creative process together where we explore connections and solutions
i• ignite community involvement and open doors for social change
Facilitators: ARTrelief would like to experiment with a “round robin” format in which a different participant volunteers to take responsibility for each monthly session. The first Salon will be facilitated by Audrey Beth Stein and Cecile Reve.
Topics: The ARTrelief Salon topics are researched and proposed by ARTrelief, and then chosen by democratic vote during each Salon. Several topics can be discussed during a Salon. Participants are encouraged to submit a topic for review. Participants necessitate no prior knowledge or in depth reading on the topic.
