playLAB is a group for children ages 8 to 11 that will explore ways to collaboratively play through the incorporation of self-regulation techniques in embodied, relational, improvisational dramatic play. 

The intent of this group is to encourage children to developmentally progress from individual play that is focused on an individual child’s own world and creations in that world, to collaborative play with other children in a joint creation that considers experiences of preferred content, natural agility, and growing edges of tolerating interpersonal demand.

This group will begin each session with an art therapy check-in centered in the emotional regulation curriculum of Zones of Regulation, a short warm up activity designed to engage sensory motor stimulation, and dramatic play focused on a specific weekly theme of interpersonal dynamics. 

In this group, children will: 

• Learn about the Zones of Regulation and how specific feelings impact behavior, physical sensations in the body, and thoughts. 

• Learn specific coping interventions for each emotional zone.

• Engage in spontaneous play that will encourage flexibility in thinking and behavioral response

• Co-create scenes and scenarios within dramatic play with peers in order to support greater tolerance of interpersonal effectiveness 

• Learn how to self-regulate by using their knowledge of the Zones of Regulation and subsequent coping skills
